Tourists visiting the National Gallery (Nasjonalgalleriet) in Oslo can admire the rich art collection of the most outstanding European artists. The pearl of the collection is "Self-portrait" by Vincent van Gogh. The gallery is also famous for the collection of paintings by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. You can see here one of the versions of his most popular work titled "Scream".
The gallery also exhibits examples of the work of other outstanding Norwegian artists, including canvases of romantic painters: Dahla, Tidemanda, Krohga. It is worth visiting this place for valuable works of artists from other countries: Manet, Degas, Renoir, Goya, Gauguin. The collection also includes sculptures from different periods from ancient times.
Some of the galleries display furniture, tapestries, engravings and graphics, and even antique Russian icons. The National Gallery's collections were initially located in the Royal Palace, in 1882 they were moved to today's headquarters.
