Akershus Fortress (Akershus Festning) is located on a peninsula in the central part of Oslo. You can admire Akerskus Castle, exhibitions of the Armed Forces Museum and the Norwegian Resistance Museum, as well as a large model of the city of Christiania Bymodell. The fortress was entered in the register of monuments.
On its territory, you can also visit the 16th-century church, where funerals of the royal family are held, a royal mausoleum and representative rooms for organizing ceremonial banquets.
The castle was built in the fourteenth century. It was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century, at the behest of King Christian IV. At the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the technical condition of the forgotten fortress deteriorated significantly. Today's appearance is due to the reconstruction work. The guard in the fortress is kept by Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, or the Norwegian Royal Guard.
