Oslo Botanic Garden (Universitetets Botaniske hage) presents a collection of plants from around the world. On the 150 hectares of land, about 35 thousand specimens are 8,500 different species. The garden also has the oldest building in the capital - Tøyen Hovedgård, currently the seat of the Botanical Museum.
Visitors can admire the arboretum, the zone with medicinal plants and spices, rock gardens showing the flora of mountain areas, including Caucasus mountains. Large greenhouses with palm trees, fig trees, cacao trees, orchids and insectivorous plants encourage to visit.
Work on creating the garden began in 1814. In the 1960s, the garden was combined with the Botanical Museum. But this is not the only museum that you can visit here. Historic buildings also have their headquarters in the Museum of Zoology, the Museum of Mineralogy and Geology and the Museum of Paleontology.
