Hembrug Museum
Local name: Hembrug Museum
The Hembrug Museum in Zaandam is housed in a former artillery and ammunition factory. At the museum, visitors can learn about the history of the factory itself from its inception to its closing, as well as the history of weapons and artillery in the Netherlands. The museum's collection includes interesting exhibits, such as factory equipment, as well as documents, photographs and audiovisual presentations.
The factory was open from the second half of the 19th century until 2003. After the end of production activity, the decision was made to transform the factory into a museum in order to preserve this unique element of local history. Not only material objects were preserved for posterity, but interviews with factory employees were also carried out.
The Hembrug Museum is now a branch of the Zaans Museum existing since 1998. It deals with the protection and propagation of the cultural heritage and history of the Zaan region, conducts educational and cultural activities.
