The fort was built in 1861. At the beginning of the 20th century it was included in the system of defensive fortifications around Amsterdam, fully inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Currently, the interior of the fort serves as an exhibition space. It also houses a music school and the seats of various cultural associations.
