The mighty fort is part of the defensive fortifications system around Amsterdam, all of which have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its construction lasted from 1890 to 1897. It was then hailed as a first-class fortress. The main building has 18 rooms, casemates and a water purification installation.
