Teylers Museum
Local name: Teylers Museum
Teylers Museum is the oldest museum founded in 1778 in the Netherlands. The collections are very eclectic, they contain valuable items from very different fields - from antique scientific devices (e.g. machines for generating electricity), through minerals and fossils, through coins and old prints, to painting. Teylers Museum is famous for its collection of drawings by Michelangelo and Rembrandt's works.
The museum was founded in 1778 by Pieter Teyler van der Hulst - a wealthy banker and silk merchant. Since 1784, the museum has been continuously available to the public, and its collections have been successively expanded. Annually, they are visited by over 100,000 people.
An interesting fact is the building itself, which has survived virtually intact since the 18th century. The interiors and their furnishings have not changed since the construction of the building.
