Proveniershof

Proveniershof (or Proveniershuis) is a complex of buildings in Haarlem with a centrally located large garden. The buildings included in the complex come mostly from the 17th and 18th centuries. This place is not only very picturesque, but also interesting from an architectural point of view.

Proveniershof is an example of hofje, i.e. buildings intended for the poor, in particular women who were unable to support themselves. Unusual, Proveniershof was inhabited by men. In comparison to other places of this type, Proveniershof is also distinguished by its large size and extensive courtyard with a garden.

In the nineteenth century, the buildings were used as barracks for the French army, later a library also operated here. Currently, the complex is again a residential function, and the houses around the courtyard are available for rent. The main building has a restaurant and shops.
