Old church
Local name: Oude Kerk
The Gothic church was built in 1246 on the site of the previous temple. Attention is drawn to the adjacent brick tower 75 m high, which is tilted from the vertical by approx. 2 m. There are over 400 gravestones in the church.
The church has 27 stained glass, considered the work of the famous glazier Joep Nicolas. They present biblical scenes originating, among others from the story of Moses or the parable of the prodigal son. They are extremely colorful, deep red, dark green or yellow ocher are clearly distinguished. The stained glass collection was inserted into the windows in the 20th century, but the first stained glass window appeared in the church as early as the 15th century. They were unfortunately destroyed during the fires in 1536 and 1654.
When visiting the temple, it is also worth paying attention to the wooden pulpit from the mid-16th century and numerous epitaphs on the walls. An interesting fact is the seven high plaques, on which were written the names of all pastors active in the church since 1572.
