Church of St. Nicholas
Local name: Crkva sv. Nikole
Saint Nicholas Church is the most important orthodox temple in Kotor. The building is distinguished by two bell towers with black domes finished with golden crosses, as well as a magnificent mosaic above the entrance. The most valuable work of art is the iconostasis made in 1908 by the Czech painter Franciszek Ziegler. It is also worth paying attention to silver candlesticks and huge chandeliers. Near the church there is also a treasury with a rich collection of icons, works of art, documents and church costumes.
The construction of the church according to the design of Ciril Ivekovic began in 1902 and was completed in 1909. The church was built in the pseudo-Byzantine style as a one-nave church with a dome. The details of the building were made in the Romanesque style. The foundations of an earlier temple, which burned down in the 19th century, were also used for the construction.
