Siege Bell War Memorial is located on the furthest tip of Grand Harbor, in front of the Castille bastion. The building in the form of a neoclassical temple was erected according to the design of Michael Sandle. Inside the building is the largest bell existing in Malta, the ringing of which commemorates the victims of the siege of Malta in 1940-1942.
The construction of the monument is based on the plan of the Holy Cross. George, and its dome was supported on 10 massive square columns. The bell inside was cast by John Taylor & Co Founders from Loughborough, England. The bell founders modeled on the famous "Gloriosa" - the largest medieval bell in the world, 2.62 m high, 2.56 m in diameter and weighing about 11.5 tons.
The monument was unveiled in 1992 on the 50th anniversary of the end of the siege of Malta, during which 1,493 people were killed and 3,674 were wounded. During the period of greatest bombardment from March 20 to April 28, 1942, Luftwaffe carried out 11,819 raids, dropping 6,557 tons of bombs.
