The Gothic tower is part of the Upper Castle. It was erected on Gediminas Mountain in 1409, along with the entire castle, which, however, has not survived to our times. The Gediminas Tower is the only remnant of this historic place. Since 1960, the Upper Castle Museum is located inside the building.
