The monument is dedicated to the builders of the Frejus railway tunnel, built in 1871. The sculpture depicts a pyramid composed of huge rocks, originating from work on the tunnel, which the mythological Titans try to climb. At the top is a statue of the winged Genius. The whole is also to be an allegory of the victory of reason over strength.
