Chapel of the Merchants
Local name: Cappella dei Mercanti
The historic baroque chapel was built at the end of the 15th century, and its interior comes from the 16th and 17th centuries. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, it is used as a concert hall during classical music concerts.
The interior of the temple is decorated with numerous 17th-century paintings, mainly depicting the Magi. Among them are the paintings "Herod with the Magi" by Sebastiano Taricco, "The Journey of the Magi to Bethlehem" by Luigi Vannier or "The Procession of the Magi to Jerusalem" by Niccolò Carone. There are also marble and wooden statues, as well as portraits of the Fathers of the Church. two antique reliquaries.
The sacristy houses the so-called The Perpetual Calendar created by the Italian astronomer and mathematician Giovanni Plana. It is one of the oldest calculating machines that allows precise calendar calculations for a period of 4,000 years, starting from year zero.
