Sant'Antioco is a small island off the coast of Sardinia. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, small fishing towns, excellent cuisine and the production of fine linen, fabrics known as sea silk.
The island is connected to Sardinia by a causeway built by the Carthaginians. The city of Sant'Antioco by the dyke has Phoenician roots, and nowadays you can see its charming fishermen's buildings and a historic church. The port town of Calasetta is located in the northern part of the island. On the island, you can visit the ancient catacombs, the remains of defense towers and the archaeological museum.
The town and island of Sant'Antioco is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. The most popular are Maladroxia beach, Cala Sapone beach and Coaquaddus beach. Some of them are developed with the possibility of renting sun loungers and umbrellas, others allow you to relax independently.
The wealth of Sant'Antioco is the local cuisine. The excellent Sardus Pater and Trebbiano wines are produced here. The great tuna, lamb and pork dishes are famous. A local delicacy is cheese-stuffed sebadas donuts. The island is also the last place in the world where you can see how fine linen is made, a fabric made from the secretions of sea mussels, also known as sea silk.
