Supreme Court of Cassation is the highest court of appeal in Italy with its headquarters in the Palace of Justice in Rome. The palace was designed by the architect Perugia Guglielmo Calderini and built in 1888-1910. On January 11, 1911, more than twenty-two years after the start of construction, the building was officially opened by the King of Italy, Victor Emmanuel III.
Above the facade towards the Tiber River rises a large bronze quadriga from 1926, made by the sculptor Ettore Ximenes from Palermo. The main entrance was preceded by ten large statues of famous lawyers. The upper part of the facade with a view of Piazza Cavour is decorated with a brown coat of arms of the Savoyard dynasty. Inside the Supreme Court Hall, also known as the Great Hall or Aula Maxim, there are several frescoes originated by Cesare Maccari and then continued until 1918 by his former student, Paride Pascucci.
The building also houses the Court Public Library.
