The Roman Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna) popularly called GNAM is located in the very center of the city. Most of the collections are wonderful works of Italian painting and sculpture from the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly from the period of Classicism and Romanticism. However, the most important foreign artists, such as Cézanne, Miró, Kandinsky, Monet, Van Gogh and Pollok are also represented here.
Native artists whose works can be seen in the gallery include Giovanni Fattori, Giacomo Manzù and Lucio Fontana. Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition dedicated to Antonio Canova. 20th-century Italian art is mainly represented by futurists and abstracts - Umberto Boccioni, Giorgio de Chirico, Giorgio Morandi, Alberto Burri, Giacomo Balla and Renato Guttuo.
