The National Gallery has its origins in the 16th century Academy founded under the patronage of the princes ruling Perugia. At that time, she accumulated collections of paintings and sculptures, as well as products of artistic craftsmanship. To a large extent, they have been preserved to this day and are presented in the Palace dei Priori. The largest section is Italian art from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century and works of goldsmiths and jewelery from the ducal collection.
