Otranto is a resort town at the junction of the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. It offers tourists access to a variety of well-kept beaches and turquoise sea, as well as many interesting sights.
The coast around Otranto is varied and extremely beautiful. There are both wide, sandy beaches and narrow ones located at the foot of the cliffs. On one of the cliffs you will find the historic city center with narrow streets and lots of shops and restaurants.
Otranto's holiday attractions include sunbathing. The beaches near the center are usually crowded, but at the same time very well developed. In search of peace and seclusion, you can drive a few kilometers away, where you can find wild parts of the coast, with small beaches that you can often have all to yourself.
The most important monument of Otranto is the Aragonese Castle, built during the medieval period. In the center, on the cliff, there is a representative promenade with tenement houses and city palaces. Currently, it is the main center of evening social life.
In the past, stone and bauxite were mined near Otranto. In one of the closed quarries in the area, there is an excavation with a Boksite Pond. It is surrounded by red rocky slopes and the water has an intense green color.
