The equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele II is located in the center of Milan in the Piazza Duomo. The inauguration of the monument took place on June 14, 1896. The sculpture was made by Ercole Rose da Umberto, who died before finishing the work. The bronze statue represents King Victor Emmanuel II in command of the Battle of San Martino. It is placed on a red granite base, the stairs are made of white marble.
On the Carrara marble pedestal there is a bas-relief depicting the Piedmontese forces in Milan after the Battle of Magenta during the Second War of Independence. At the base there are also two lying lions, whose paws are placed on the plates with the words "Rome" and "Milan", which refers to the Unification of Italy.
