La Maddalena is the largest town in the Maddalena archipelago off the coast of Sardinia. It is a great base for exploring this unique area and relaxing on beautiful, partly wild beaches with bright sand and blue sea water.
The archipelago is a remnant of the land connection that existed in the past between the present-day islands of Sardinia and Corsica. It is characterized by a varied coast, numerous bays and lush Mediterranean vegetation. The islands are protected by the Arcipelago di La Maddalena National Park .
La Maddalena is the administrative and tourist center of the area. There are companies that offer cruises on islands open to tourists, as well as diving trips and other forms of active recreation. The surrounding waters are great for sailing, surfing, sea kayaking and kitesurfing.
La Maddalena itself has a wonderful atmosphere of a port town with lots of bars, shops and a rich nightlife, which takes place mainly in the vicinity of the port.
