One of Genoa's oldest churches and the first cathedral of this city. Its beginnings date back to the 4th century, and its present shape was given to it during the great reconstruction at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. It is a three-nave basilica with a richly decorated interior. The naves contain several side chapels with stucco and sculptural decorations. The vault depicts scenes from the life of Syrus and the Holy Bible. The main altar is made in the baroque style of black marble and gilded bronze.
