The dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was at the time of creation (1420-1436) the largest dome in the world and to this day is the largest brick dome ever built. The structure has an internal diameter of 45.5 m and an external diameter of 54.8 m and 107 m in height. The design and construction of the dome ensured eternal fame by Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446).
