Castelfidardo is a historic city famous for the production of accordions. Almost all Italian accordions available on the market are manufactured in the workshops here.
The town is situated on a hill with a nice view of the nearby coast. Its center is small, built up with historic houses, mainly from the Renaissance period. The most important monument here is the church of St. Stephen, whose origins date back to around 1000. The temple was rebuilt several times and has features of various styles. From the neighboring bell tower, you can admire the panorama of the city.
The city's main square, Piazza della Republica, is surrounded by Renaissance townhouses. There is also a town hall from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, and in its vicinity there is a descent to the 12th century crypt.
Castelfidardo's greatest attraction is its accordion-making traditions. The first instrument was built in the second half of the 19th century by Paolo Soprani. He popularized the accordion as a companion for games and family celebrations. In addition to the Soprani factory, there are also a dozen other plants producing these instruments. In the basement of the town hall, you can visit the International Accordion Museum.
