Mole Vanvitelliana

An 18th-century building erected on an artificial island. It was commissioned by Pope Clement XII and designed by architect Luigi Vanvitelli. It was built to accommodate potentially infected travelers and goods arriving at the port, as well as lepers. Formerly, it had no connection to the mainland.
