The Tomb of King David

Local name: קבר דוד המלך

The tomb of King David is located in Jerusalem, on Mount Sinai. The grave of the biblical ruler can be found on the ground floor of the Upper Room, in which, according to the Bible, Jesus' last supper with the apostles took place. The stone sarcophagus, considered the burial place of the King of Israel, is worshiped in Judaism and Islam.

The grave stands in the corner of the room on the ground floor of the remains of the former Hagia Sion temple. The place of actual burial of King David is unknown, and the sarcophagus itself, most likely, remains empty. The current building, which houses the sanctuary, dates from the time of the Crusades and was built on the site of the house of prayer.

In the fifteenth century, followers of Islam, who consider David one of the prophets, took over the building and transformed it into a mosque. The Upper Room's vestibule, which now serves as a synagogue, is considered the place where Jesus washed the feet of his apostles. Although there are still disputes about the authenticity of the grave, King David's grave remains a tourist attraction and a destination of pilgrimages of three religions.
