The Last Supper Room

Local name: The Last Supper Room

The Upper Room, also known as Sala upstairs, is an important place known in the Christian tradition. According to the Bible, it was here that the last supper took place, preceding the capture and crucifixion of Jesus. The Upper Room is located in Jerusalem, in present-day Israel, on the hill of Zion, which lies outside the walls of the Old City. On the ground floor in the Cenacle building is also the Tomb of David, worshiped by Jews and Muslims.

The Upper Room has become the arena for many events that the New Testament mentions. In the room on the mountain Jesus washed the feet of his apostles, it was here that a gathering of disciples took place after his Ascension and the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. Centuries ago, there was a Christian shrine that, according to accounts, kept Jesus' crown of thorns. In the church there was also a column at which it was scourged.

The building in which the Hall is located on the top has a medieval appearance, however, most likely, its upper part was added later. The Upper Room was the first Christian temple, a place of prayer for the apostles and Mary. As per Jesus' command, masses were celebrated here from the apostolic times until the 16th century. It is worth visiting the Upper Room, which became the mother of all Christian churches.
