The Irish Jewish Museum is located in the Portobello district of Dublin. It is located in the building of the former synagogue and two adjacent buildings. The exhibitions here show the life of Irish Jews from the mid-19th century to the present day.
The museum was opened in 1985 by the Irish President of Israel Chaim Herzog. Its main part is the renovated synagogue. You can see its interior with all the equipment. Harold Smerling's collection of liturgical and cult items is also displayed here.
The exhibitions in the lower part of the building and in the houses adjoining the synagogue show what the life of Irish Jews was like, mainly at the turn of the 20th century. Here you can see a furnished kitchen and a room with a table set for a festive meal, clothes, interior items, books and toys. There is also an exhibition showing the history of Irish Jews and their contribution to the social and cultural development of the country.
