National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology

The Archaeological Division of the National Museum of Ireland covers the history of Ireland from the Stone Age to the Late Middle Ages. There are, among others the most famous of Irish artifacts - the Ardagh Chalice chalice and the Tara Brooch brooch. They are part of the Treasury, the best collection of Bronze and Iron Age artifacts in Europe. A separate exhibition is dedicated to Ancient Egypt and Rome.

The Kingship and Sacrifice exhibition features many mummified bodies found in the swamps as well as Celtic artifacts. People whose bodies are found in Irish bogs from the 19th century to the present day are believed to have been ritually killed. Eamonn Kelly theorized that they were tribal kings, sacrificed by the community after failing their royal kingdom, and their bodies placed in water bodies at the border points of tribal territory.
