Gönguleið um Fimmvörðuháls is a small settlement surrounded by wonderful Icelandic countryside. The town itself is just a few houses, a guesthouse and a shop, but tourists come here primarily for trekking routes and stunning waterfalls.
The trail, known as Fimmvörðuháls, stretches between the two glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. It is 25 km long and leads through rugged landscapes cut by fissures and streams. The snow-capped peaks of the mountains appear on the horizon, and part of the route leads through lava fields.
The waterfalls located here are the biggest attraction of the area. In the south you can admire the 60 meter high Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and the 40 meter high Gljúfrafoss Waterfall. In turn, to the north of the settlement are Gluggafoss Waterfall and Drifandifoss Waterfall. Both pairs of waterfalls can be reached by paths from nearby roads.
