New Gallery in Budapest is the official name of the architecturally unusual building, which due to its shape is commonly known as Bálna, or "whale". This building combines cultural and recreational functions because it is located here
The building was opened in 2013 and was designed by the Dutch architect Kas Oosterhuis. Temporary exhibitions of Hungarian and international 20th-century and contemporary art are organized on 860 m2 of exhibition space. Events such as the Cheese Festival are also organized here. Formally, the New Gallery is a branch of the Budapest Historical Museum.
The stores operating here sell a wide variety of goods, from organic food, to antiques, to contemporary handicrafts. The cafes and restaurants in the New Gallery are also a good place to enjoy the view of the Danube over coffee.
