The Great Market Hall is the oldest and largest market in Budapest, visited by crowds of tourists but also city residents. The building has the form of a two-story steel structure covered with a roof, with large windows. The hall has an area of about 10,000 square meters, where dozens of stores operate.
The stands operating in the Great Market Hall offer vegetables and fruits and other food products, including typical Hungarian products such as peppers, Hungarian wines and alcohols, meat and sausages as well as marinated vegetables. In addition, you can buy a variety of souvenirs, clothing, postcards and jewelry. There are gastronomic establishments serving Hungarian cuisine and alcohol.
The Great Market Hall was established in the last years of the 19th century. The author of the project was Samu Pécs. The building has features of neo-Gothic architecture, in particular the monumental main gate. The roof made of colorful tiles also catches the eye.
