Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki
Local name: Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης
Established in 1912, the museum presents the prehistoric and ancient history of Thessaloniki and its surroundings. It is located in a building from the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition was thoroughly reorganized in connection with the 2004 Olympic Games. Ceramics, weapons, jewelry and tools found during excavations are presented at the exhibitions. A large part are statues and figures from ancient temples and houses, mainly from the Roman period, as well as finds from cemeteries from the city and its surroundings.
