Rotunda
Local name: Ροτόντα
The rotunda, also called the church of Saint George, is a round building erected in 306 AD. It was supposed to be the temple of Zeus here, then the imperial mausoleum. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the rotunda was turned into a church, then a mosque, and after Greece regained independence, it again became a church. A Turkish minaret has survived next to the building. The rotunda has a diameter of over 24 m and its walls are 6 m thick. Fragments of paintings have survived on the vault.
