The most important temple of the Acropolis dedicated to Athena the Virgin. It was built in the middle of the 5th century BC and is considered the most perfect example of the Doric style. The stone, rectangular building of the Parthenon is surrounded by 46 columns. Around the temple there is also a decorative Panatenai frieze depicting a scene of donations during the festival of Athena. Its original fragments are found in museums in various European cities.
