The garden was designed in 1990 in cooperation with the Japanese partner city of Otsu. In its landscape you can see the mountains, the lake and the river. This is a reference to Otsu's surroundings. On the lake there is an island connected to the banks with wooden bridges and symbolizing a turtle, which for Japanese personifies immortality. In the garden you can see, among others, azaleas, rhododendrons, Japanese cherries, gingko and irises.
