Viechtach is a small town surrounded by mountains made of quartz. A lot of historic buildings have been preserved in the center, mainly from the period from the 17th to the 19th century.
The hilly forested surroundings of Viechtach are perfect for active tourism. There are hiking and biking trails here. The area is sometimes called "Bavarian Canada" because of its unspoiled beauty and the unregulated natural bed of the Black Regen River. You can also travel through this valley by a historic forest railway.
A lot of historic buildings characteristic of Bavaria have been preserved in the town. A baroque church tower rises above the low, tiled houses. A major attraction of the city is the Minerals Museum. The inspiration for its creation were the deposits of quartz, which are located in the local mountains. The collection now includes minerals and fossils from all over the world.
