Trinity Church

Local name: Dreifaltigkeitskirche

The late Baroque Roman Catholic church of the Holy Trinity is a Carmelite monastery church. During World War II, it was the only church in the center of Munich that was saved during the Allied bombing. The interior of the temple is decorated with frescoes, the facade represents baroque modeled on the Italian style.

The Holy Trinity Church was built in 1711-1718 according to the design of Giovanni Antonio Viscardi, after his death continued Enrico Zuccalli. The construction of the temple was the victim of three states: middle class, aristocracy and clergy. It was made to avert the dangers that threatened the city in the wake of the war of Spanish succession.

Inside the temple you can find the works of the creators of German Baroque, including Joseph Ruffini, Andreas Faistenberger, Johann Baptist Straub and Johann Georg Baader. The fresco in the dome of the temple, which depicts the Holy Trinity in glory, was made by Munich painter Cosmas Damian Asam.
