Church of St. Margaret

Local name: Stadtpfarrkirche St. Margaret

Old parish church of St. Margaret in Munich is a baroque temple in the style characteristic of Bavarian village churches. The church is dedicated to Saint. Margaret of Antioch. The interior is decorated with antique altars, a pulpit and frescoes.

The construction of the church lasted from 1711 to 1713. The temple was built according to the plans of Wolfgang Zwerger. The church is the successor of the former, probably Gothic church. Remains of the medieval building have been preserved mainly in the tower. The pulpit is authored by Ignaz Johanan Grassla.

The main altar contains the image of St. Margaret by Franz Fröhlich and side wooden figures depicting saints Jan and Jerzy. The left side altar presents paintings of the Holy Family by Johann Baptista Unterstainer, on the sides Madonna and Child and saints and the Three Kings.
