Church of St. Anna

Local name: Klosterkirche St. Anna

Roman Catholic monastery church of St. Anna's in Munich is the first Rococo church in Bavaria and had a decisive influence on the development of religious architecture in this region. Among the interior elements, the most valuable are: a fresco decorating the ceiling, altars, including the main altar, organs, pulpit and tabernacle. The exterior is decorated with a historic facade.

In 1725 the Jeronimos Monastery was founded. Elector Maria Amalie laid the foundation stone of the monastery church two years later, in the year of the birth of her son Maksymilian III Józef. The church was designed by architect Johann Michael Fischer, and construction lasted until 1733.

During secularization in 1807, the Jeronimos Monastery was set aside and cleaned, and the monastery building became barracks. Twenty years later, the Franciscans took over the building. During the bombing during World War II, the church was severely damaged and was restored in the late 1990s.
