Castle Square

The history of the building dates back to the seventh century, which makes it the oldest inhabited castle in Germany. Visitors can view 30 chambers, including the kitchen, armory, knight's room and dungeon with a torture room. An interesting fact is the room of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797-1848), one of the greatest German writers who spent the last years of her life in the castle.
