The church was built at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries as a temple of people of the sea. He was consecrated in 1334. Is one of the stations of the Way of St. Jakub, as well as one of the main monuments of the Hanseatic Hanseatic Old Town, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO cultural heritage list since 1987.
