Lorsch Abbey

Local name: Kloster Lorsch

The former Benedictine Abbey was founded in 764. The place is known because of the manuscripts being created there, considered to be one of the most valuable monuments of medieval writing. The monastery is one of the most important pre-Romanesque monuments of Germany. In 1991 the abbey and Altenmünster in Lorsch were included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list.
