The thirteenth-century building became famous thanks to Mary Shelley and her novel "Frankenstein." Around the castle there are many legends about dragons, witches and a great treasure, which in the 18th century was the reason for digging the castle hill for many years. The largest Halloween festival in Germany has been organized in the castle since the 1970s.
