Mende fountain

Local name: Mendebrunnen

The largest fountain in Leipzig. It was built in the late 19th century in the Neo-Baroque style. It is modeled on Roman fountains, among others from Navona Square. It is an allegory of man-water relationships. It presents the characters of Tritons, mythical half fish-half horses and Nereid. They symbolize the power of water on the one hand, and its subjugation by man on the other.
