Castle Ruin Drachenfels
Local name: Burgruine Drachenfels
The ruins of a 12th-century castle, for the construction of which material (trachite) was used from the mountain on which it rises. Exploitation of the quarry over several centuries almost led to the collapse of the building: mining was banned in 1807. Heinrich Heine made the castle the subject of the poem "The Night on the Drachenfels".
