The oldest district of the city, founded in the 13th and then expanded in the 14th century, now has mainly Baroque architecture, dating back to the rebuilding of Heidelberg from the devastation of the Nine Years War (1688-1697). Currently, it is the city's biggest tourist attraction, full of stylish cafes and restaurants.
