Heidelberg Market Square

The central market of the old town served for centuries commercial, administrative and judicial functions, as evidenced by the presence of the 18th-century Baroque town hall. In the center of the square is the Fountain of Hercules from 1706-1709 - a symbol of gratitude to residents for participating in the Nine Years War (1688-1697) and encouragement to rebuild the city.
