Is one of the most famous operas in the world. Established in 1678 as the first private opera in Germany. It also houses the Hamburg Ballet and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg. The repertoire presents both classical and contemporary opera and ballet performances.
The facility is located Piccola Opera intended for younger guests. Children can play not only the viewer, but also actively participate in the performances themselves.
Initially, the opera was called Stadt, which was changed to the present one only in the 1930s. Famous composers, including Giacomo Puccini and Piotr Czajkowski, presented their works here. From 1763, the repertoire also included the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
After the damage caused by bombing during World War II, the opera house required reconstruction, which was completed in 1955.
