Cuxhaven is a resort at the mouth of the Elbe to the Wadden Sea. There are sandy beaches here, and the attraction is the possibility of horse riding or a cab on the bottom of the sea when the tide comes.
The Wadden Sea is part of the North Sea and the German Gulf. It is characterized by very large daily tides, which means that for part of the day you can walk on its bottom with a dry leg. Walking and horse riding trips to the small island of Neuwerk are organized. They can only take place during low tide. People who decide to go out to the sea on their own should check the exact tide hours in advance so as not to be cut off by the water.
The sandy beach of Cuxhaven is visited by crowds of tourists from Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. In its vicinity there is the Alte Liebe, i.e. the former pier turned into a viewing platform today. At the mouth of the local port is the wooden Kugelbake tower, which is the symbol of the city.
Cuxhaven was in the past part of Hamburg and only at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries was it separated as a separate city. The port is an avant-port of Hamburg and stands here, among others Lighthouse. A lot of villas and guesthouses from the beginning of the resort's operation have been preserved in the city. There is also a 16th century Ritzebüttel Castle surrounded by the park.
